What Happened to MP3 support?

Post by Guest on Wed Nov 25, 2009 5:22 pm

Remember when the Wii used to play MP3s on the Photo Channel? Well now it doesn't, and it can only play AAC music thanks to Photo Channel 1.1 which will be implemented into all future Wiis from now on.

Of course, I don't have a problem with this since I can just downgrade the Photo Channel on my Wii, but with games like Excite Truck and Endless Ocean, it's really fun to just listen to the background music of your choice.

And now that MP3 support for future Wiis are gone, how come I'm not seeing AAC support in games like Excitebots and other games? It's a really fun feature to use in all Wii games because it's awesome to listen to your favorite song in the background. Nintendo should be supporting this feature like they do with the Nintendo Channel, Mii Channel, etc.

I don't think most people know the media features for the Wii to begin with.

That is very true, but people don't want to do any research, that want to be told everything.

Nintendo should update the photo channel so that it can support mp3s and those soongs can be played over any games music, or at least all the other games that have yet to come out. i would love it if i could listen to the songs on my sd card or my ipod while i play my wii w/o having to wear headphones.

Pretty much sounds right. Why work when you can have others work for you.

Or how about DVD support?

Personally, I would rather have the option to rip music from my games than listen to music I could listen to while playing games.

That would be a great feature, but nintendo wouldn't even get rid of friend codes, so both of those things seem out of reach

You can play your own music in the Photo Channel, Excite Truck, Guitar Hero, and Endless Ocean. It used to support MP3s, but now it's upgraded because of Photo Channel 1.1, and standardized to AAC which music that is in MP4 format.

See, that's the problem:

I don't have an iPod yet I don't want one. I'm just fine with CDs and MP3s. I want to stay updated with everything on my Wii with Photo Channel 1.1, but I don't want to have to downgrade back to the original Photo Channel to play MP3s on my Wii. Why couldn't there be both MP3 and AAC support?

AAC support is fine, but Nintendo made a very poor decision in removing MP3 support. Nobody is going to bother with AAC because not many people know how to use it, myself included.

It's too bad we'll probably never get MP3 support back.

How about CDs? That would be cool to be able to play CDs on the Wii.
